Dallas, Texas - Stellar PerformanceBased on World City Annual Statistics of the U.S. Census Department, the city of Dallas, Texas, ranks as the 15 th top-growing custom district in the United States. These records show that imports and exports of Dallas have risen by 17.50% (from $49,599,138,296 in 2005) to $58,278,924,487 in 2006. This amounts for an increase of $8,679,786,191 over those 12 months. Tech jobs make up a significant portion of the labor market in Dallas (based on data from Fortune Magazine on May 23, 2007.) In fact, the city is considered one of the top 10 metropolitan areas based on demand for tech jobs. The higher pay reflects the higher demand in the city for skilled and talented tech personnel. Analysts believe trade with China accounts for much of the increase. China has become the leading trade partner of the Dallas- Fort Worth region, after contributing to nearly 30% of the total shipments in 2006. Chief economist Lyssa Jenkins (of the Greater Dallas Chamber), majority of trade with China is being conducted through air shipments. In connection, the Dallas Fort/Worth Airport is the 3 rd busiest airport in the United States. This facility was also perceived as one of the best, as far as perception of overall customer satisfaction of large airports is concerned – based on research done by J.D. Power and Associates. Dallas-Forth Worth also came in ninth in the country in a globalization index developed by Moody’s Economy.com, based on the degree of international economic activity. CollegeGrad.com (in an article published in the Dallas Business Journal) also tagged Dallas as the 9 th-leading city based on demand for college graduates to fill entry-level positions. The article listed the 25 top markets for entry-level jobs. The adage that all work and no play makes one dull could be true. So Dallas-Fort Worth was recently rated in Forbes Magazine as the 29 th best city for singles to live in (out of a list of 40 cities.) The ranking was based on the topics of online dating, coolness, cost-of-living, number of singles, job growth, culture and nightlife. On the whole, the state of Texas is highly attractive for foreign trade investment. Texas has dominated business in the United States based on exports in the last five years. Majority of international economic activity in the state is attributed to the service industry, particularly the services of banking, logistics and tourism. With such businesses in its arsenal, it is no wonder that the state is experiencing dynamic economic growth.
